SALUTE THE TROOPS PARTNERS WITH UNMASKED EXPRESSIVE THERAPIES TO OFFER VETERANS ART THERAPY

Updated: Mar 20, 2019

Salute the Troops has partnered with Unmasked Expressive Therapies to offer hands-on art therapy for veterans and their families. This collaborative partnership is about the process of healing by sharing stories through art. Research has proven art therapy is effective in alleviating PTSD and healing through/from trauma. The hope of providing this service is to assist with coping skills for local veterans and their families. “Art therapy holds a powerful alternative in the process of healing trauma” said Tami Joe DeLisle, MSAT, LPC-IT, UnMasked Expressive Therapies. “When it is difficult to talk about it, creativity will tell the story in way that others understand.” This idea grew out of an internship, led by Tami Joe DeLisle, and a Marian University student, Laura McCauley. Together, they worked with Salute the Troops to identify art therapy opportunities. “Salute the Troops is excited to offer this new level of support to veterans in the counties we support.” said board of director’s president Daniel Tinsley, “Veterans don’t always seek out alternative avenues for healing; we’re sheading the light.” Sessions will begin in June, being offered the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month at Salute the Troops new location at 54 E. First Street. Additionally, sessions are available at UnMasked Expressive Therapies in Beaver Dam on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month.
